Overview: DTZ (Stephen Clarke, Director of EARTH) was appointed by the board of Safeway and subsequently Marks and Spencer to provide advice in connection with the value to shareholders of the store’s portfolio in 2004

This advice was given to the boards as part of their defence strategies and to ensure the true value of the stores was obtained for the shareholders.

Subsequent to the acquisition by Morrisons of Safeway, the team led by Stephen Clarke were instructed to dispose of certain stores in line with the Competition Commission authority orders. These disposals further supported their original valuations.
